This is often the first mod dome to a bike, but waiting till you have done the above will get the most out of it. The benefits of an
aftermarket exhaust are numerous.
A substantial weight saving (of up to 5kg/12lbs) over standard equipment, better looks and ground clearance, and of course more power. A
2Stroke expansion chamber is a pretty clever piece of kit. As the exhaust gasses leave the engine, they do so in waves. An expansion chamber
works by sending a wave bouncing back up the exhaust that helps suck the mixture into the cylinder, meaning the engine can burn more fuel
quicker.
Aftermarket pipes are not made to conform to emission requirements, so they can be more effective. Common aftermarket exhausts are made by
Arrow and Gianelli, and can increase power by a couple of bhp, as well as altering the power delivery of the bike.
